Please join us (or tune in to our livestream) as Sonoma County Pride kicks off Pride Month by raising the Pride Flag on top of the Rosenberg Building at the corner of Mendocino Ave & 4th St. This year, we are proud to announce that the flag-raising ceremony will take place on May 31 at 11 am.

Last year, we reached out to the community for support in raising funds for the flag, and we were overwhelmed by the response. We are immensely grateful for your contributions as we continue this important tradition.

A brief history of the Pride flag: The Pride flag was first introduced in 1978 by Gilbert Baker, who was approached by the San Francisco Pride committee to create a symbol that represented their fight for equal rights. After careful consideration, Baker chose the rainbow as a representation of diversity and acceptance. Since then, the rainbow flag has become a globally recognized symbol for the LGBTQ+ rights movement, symbolizing love, tolerance, and peace.

In 2021, an addition was made to the original Pride flag to create the Intersex Inclusive Progress Pride Flag. This new design, created by Valentino Vecchietti, incorporates a purple circle superimposed over a yellow triangle within the chevron on the left side of the flag. This addition is an homage to the 2013 intersex flag designed by Morgan Carpenter, an Australian bioethicist and researcher.
